4/5/2022
By Dawn Yeomans, Ph.D.
Research Principal, GOJO Industries
K-12 facility managers, teachers, and staff deserve a pat on the back for helping their schools stay open this academic year. And there is no rest; while the 2021-2022 school year nears completion, facility managers are already preparing for the next school year, which will likely look different yet again. With the pandemic (hopefully) in the rear-view mirror, facility managers may want to breathe a sigh of relief, but now is not the time to let up the guard. With masks disappearing from use and other COVID practices like social distancing relaxing, germs will likely re-emerge, possibly with a vengeance.

Always Learning from Our Successes and Failures
4/4/2022
By Beth Beddow
Former, Internal Communications Specialist, GOJO Industries
“Everything I know, I learned from someone else” is a quote from our co-founder Jerry Lippman that has become famous around our 75-year-old Family Enterprise, and that’s for good reason. Jerry valued learning as a basic right of every person, and, though he was not afforded the opportunity for formal education beyond the 10th grade, he was an ardent lifelong learner and believed in the power of both schooling and learning on the job. Today, we honor Jerry’s passion for learning by embracing Always Learning as one of our GOJO Values. Always Learning happens through formal learning, learning from the work we do every day, and reflecting on both our successes and failures.

By Beth Beddow
Former, Internal Communications Specialist, GOJO Industries
In 1946, Goldie and Jerry Lippman started GOJO with very little to their name except the grit to get work done and solve a very real human problem. Our story begins in Akron, Ohio, during World War II. Goldie was a supervisor in one of Akron's rubber factories, manufacturing life rafts and rubber products for the war effort, where she and her co-workers discovered how difficult it was to clean their hands after a day’s work.

Surface Disinfecting Wipes Make Classroom Cleaning Easier and Faster

By Dawn Yeomans, Ph.D.
Research Principal, GOJO Industries
Schools are full of germs. More than a decade ago, leading microbiologist Dr. Chuck Gerba conducted pivotal research showing that 25-50% of surfaces in the classroom can harbor germs that cause stomach bugs and the flu during winter months. With germs ever present in our schools and nearly half of school staff reporting disinfecting their classrooms at least four times a day, many classrooms probably have a stash of disinfectant wipes to help teachers and staff efficiently keep surfaces germ-free.

We have heard a near unanimous message from our customers in the field: they are being asked to “do more with less.” Labor shortages, cost pressures, new safety requirements and added workflow are creating challenges across markets. Even within hand hygiene, you likely have far more hand sanitizer dispensers to maintain than ever before, and there is a good chance those dispensers are touch-free.

3/9/2022
By Chip Manuel, Ph.D.
Food Safety Science Advisor, GOJO Industries
The sights of a restaurant experience can often be as enjoyable as the food: unique dishes being shuffled to tables of smiling families amidst an appealing ambiance, all taken in from the vantage of a favorite spot. Another common sight that can be observed at a restaurant is an employee grabbing a soaking wet cloth towel from a red bucket filled with solution and then using that towel to wipe a table clean for the next set of guests. But did you know that this seemingly routine practice can carry risks if not conducted properly? In this blog post, we take a deeper dive into the practice of reusable wiping cloths within a restaurant and explore some of the hidden, unobserved risks associated with this practice.
