Workplace Sustainability

At GOJO, social sustainability begins at home.

We take very seriously our responsibilities toward workplace sustainability as reflected in our interaction with our valued family of employees. Compassion and social awareness have been instilled at GOJO from the beginning.

Edible Benefits

Company founders Jerry and Goldie Lippman set the tone for workplace sustainability half a century ago without even knowing they were doing it. Along with their warmth and sense of fairness and respect, the Lippmans shared their lunchtime table with their first employees and began an early practice of making sure that bread and peanut butter were always available. It provided a quick meal for those who didn't bring a lunch, and a healthy break-time snack.

Over time, we built on this tradition of workplace generosity to include milk, tea, hot chocolate, soft drinks and freshly popped popcorn. It's all available for free at Jerry's Place – the name given to the break room and cafeteria at major GOJO facilities. Just one small way of nurturing the GOJO family and living our culture of workplace sustainability.

Wellness Close at Hand

As part of the GOJO commitment to providing a healthy, safe work environment, the Workplace Wellness Program was introduced to all employees in March 2006. The goal of this program is to advance workplace sustainability by helping to reduce the spread of germs that can cause illness. PURELL® Caddies, sanitising stations and dispensers are strategically placed at all GOJO locations for this purpose.

The program includes the placement of complimentary bottles of PURELL at each employee's personal workspace – underscoring how we value our people and nurture their continued health and well-being. In April 2010, we proudly distributed bottles of PURELL Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitiser to every employee to commemorate the introduction of the world's first green certified instant hand sanitiser.

Good Works at Work

At least twice a year GOJO employees are able to purchase GOJO and PURELL products at less than the cost to produce them – with all proceeds going to the Akron-Canton (Ohio) Regional Foodbank. This very popular occasion provides a positive experience for employees and their families while raising thousands of dollars annually for an organisation that feeds the local community.

Work and Life in Balance

Our belief that workplace sustainability extends to individual well-being is embedded in the GOJO culture. We value employee overall well being and sponsor an Employee Assistance Plan for employees and their family members facing personal challenges. We sponsor on-site health & wellness fairs conducted in partnership with a leading area hospital, and annual on-site mammograms.

Our wellness benefits extend to our healthcare plan, where wellness physicals and routine tests are covered at 100%, and lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation are supported. Our educational assistance program extends our value in life-long learning, and supports individual career sustainability. Finally, our retirement savings plan supports individual well-being and planning for a dignified retirement.
