PURELL® Instant Hand Sanitizer is safe and effective when used as directed. To discourage misuse by ingestion, PURELL contains ingredients that impart an unpleasant taste, making it undesirable to drink.
Portion-controlled dispensing
PURELL is available in fully enclosed, portion-controlled dispensers that allow only a small portion of PURELL to be dispensed. High visibility and low dosage make misuse by ingestion both difficult and easily observed.
Consistent with best practices for all products used around children, always supervise PURELL use by children under six years of age or those whose judgement may be impaired.
Toxicologist evaluated
Like other consumer personal care products, PURELL is safe for people of all ages including children when used as directed.
An independent toxicologist with an expertise in poison control and safety concluded that given the use pattern of the product, accidental ingestion of small amounts such as occurs with hand to mouth exposure rarely results in anything other than minor oral irritation or bad taste.
Years of experience with product use has demonstrated that, just as with liquid hand soaps, larger ingestions capable of causing adverse effects are simply rare.
